The product stays the same.

The price difference is about who performs implementation, operation, upgrades, and support. It is not a feature gate.

Included in both paths

Instructor assessment controls, guided student launch, exact URL rules, exam tools, school presets, administrator recovery, Classic Quizzes, and New Quizzes.

What managed hosting adds

A service relationship for implementation, production operation, release coordination, and institutional support.

Straight answers before a quote.

These are the questions that most often determine which operating path fits.

Does managed hosting include more product features?

No. Managed and self-hosted deployments run the same application. The managed quote covers implementation, operation, upgrades, and support.

Is self-hosting free?

The source is available under PolyForm Noncommercial. Eligible institutional use may self-host under that license, while commercial hosting, implementation, and support require a separate agreement. Your infrastructure and staffing costs remain your responsibility.

Can we move between the two paths?

Yes. Both paths use the same application and PostgreSQL data model. A move still requires a planned data, secrets, DNS, and Canvas cutover.
